Show Time!

You have established the schedule, advertised the program, taken registrations and ordered the kits. The kits arrived, you checked the materials and reviewed the lesson plans. You have snacks, teacher materials, and 20 pairs of beady eyes fixed on a big pile of boxes that you are about to hand out. Here's how you get started ...

A. Take Roll
Some teachers make name tags so they can learn the names of the kids in their class. When you take roll, make a place next to the student's name for them to initial. We highly recommend this. It gives you an accurate and definitive record of who attends each session, should the question arise, particularly if the parent has a student who has a difficult time getting to an after-school class. The registration form does state that it is the responsibility of the parent to see to it that the kid shows up for the program. No refunds for skipping class.

B. Pass out the kits and put names on boxes and books
Also on the first day of class you will want to hand each student a kit. There is a space on the lid flap for them to write their names. You will also want them to open the kit, remove the lab book and write their name on the inside cover of the book. This way if anything gets mixed up, misplaced, or lost it can be returned to its proper owner.

C. Review the Lab Safety section.
More good advice. We do our very best to create kits that are safe and easy to use. We do not include any chemicals or instruments that could easily pose a threat to the kids. However, given a resourceful anklebiter, anything is possible. As a precaution, we suggest that you take five minutes during the first lab period and review the Lab Safety section found in the front of every one of our lab books. You can even have the kids initial the pages as a way of demonstrating that they have been discussed and reviewed.

On your end, we indemnify all teachers who use our kits from any injury caused in the course of properly performing or teaching an activity from our lab books during LabRats classes. In other words, we have a great big insurance policy and if a kid does accidentally get hurt using the materials we have provided in the manner that they were designed and directed to be used, we agree to take responsibility for the accident and hold you harmless in the event of legal action or a claim. Such a fun topic.

D. It's Show Time! Have Fun.
This is really why you do all the work. Open up the kits, load up the tubes, and have fun!
