Lab Loot Information

Prepare for the Class

A. Register the Kids
The registration forms have been distributed and, hopefully, you have arranged to have the parent group or school secretary accept registrations. There is a form on the previous page that allows the registrar to enter the child's name and form of payment, and also track the names of students who are on the waiting list. If you find that your science classes are wildly popular, you may want to automatically establish a roll-over date for the overflow. Take registrations until the printed cut -off date.

B. Order the Kits
If the PTA is taking the checks, ask them to cut a check to Loose in the Lab for the number of kits you wish to order. If you are taking the checks, deposit them and cut a check to Loose in the Lab or you can use a Visa or MasterCard. We have included a ready-to-go order form in this guide. Be sure to include one free kit per program for you, minimum of 8 kids, in the order form. It does not matter if you are teaching 8 kids or 80 kids we will send you one kit for free. If there are additional materials for teacher demonstrations we will send 1 set per class that you teach, so please indicate that on your order as well. Be sure to include the Lab Loot information as well

C. Don't Forget Your Lab Loot
Lab Loot is our way of saying thank you to the school, the principal, or the PTA for helping you get the program off the ground. For every kid that signs up and pays for a kit, we will send you $3 of Lab Loot. The Loot can then be exchanged for anything in the catalog: supplies, classroom kits, posters for your room, a silly T shirt to wear on lab day, chemical refills, you name it. Fill out the form below and send it in with your first order. Remember, shipping is extra.

Lab Loot is good for one year from the date of issue. You are welcome to redeem it immediately or save them for a big item that you would like to acquire.

D. Gather the Teacher Provided Materials
If you look on the Materials page in each of the lab books there may be a list of the materials you will need to gather and/or purchase for this program. These are mainly consumable or perishable items, or things that pose some form of difficulty in sending because they melt (a bag of ice comes to mind) or may be perishable (like red cabbage) . It is your responsibility and expense to provide these items. If you would like to preview the list for each program, you can see them on this website.

E. Review Your Lesson Plans
Some folks like to fly by the seat of their pants and some teach the same way. If you would like a little more hand holding the books are written to be taught in the order that the lab activities are presented. In either case we have found, over the years, that even brand new teachers will need to spend just a nominal amount of time preparing for the classes. We are not kidding when we say that these kits are, "Just Open Them Up and Teach."
