CEU FAQ

Q: What is a CEU?
A: CEU is an acronym for Continuing Education Unit. These are also sometimes referred to as clock hours. It is an instructional credit given for training that has been completed by a teacher.

Q: What is a CEU used for?
A: Some states require that teachers earn a certain number of clock hours/CEU’s each year to maintain professional certification. Some school districts allow them to be used for increases in pay.

Q: Can a CEU be used for undergraduate or graduate course work credit?
A: Not at an accredited university. If you are getting an on-line PhD. in Caribbean Voodoo, maybe. But only if it is hands-on voodoo. OK. We’re just kidding, no credit toward a degree.

Q: What do I have to do to earn this CEU?
A: Attend a Loose in the Lab workshop for 5.5 hours, complete a CEU request form, fill out a workshop evaluation, and pay the $ 25 fee.

Q: Do I have to write a paper or turn in an assignment to earn a CEU?
A: Nope.

Q: Who is issuing the CEU?
A: The good folks at the Department of Continuing Education from the University of Texas at Arlington.

Q: What is the value of this CEU?
A: 0.55 CEU or 5.5 clock hours.

Q: How much does it cost?
A: Twenty dollars.

Q: When can I apply for a CEU?
A: On the day of the workshop only.

Q: Can I earn more than one CEU?
A: Yes, but only if you attend a second, different Loose in the Lab workshop. You can earn one CEU for each new workshop that you attend. For example, if you attend both the elementary and middle school program for your state you would be able to earn a CEU each day.

Q: How long until I receive my CEU certificate from UTA?
A: Two to four weeks after the completion of the workshop.

Q: If I hold a Loose in the Lab workshop at my school, school district or ESC, can we apply for CEU’s through UTA?
A: Yes.
